EAST ESSEX FRIENDS
East Essex Friends are a short walks group within the Ramblers Association. We provide a year round programme of walks on Wednesdays and Saturdays across Essex predominantly to the east of the county. Occasionally we arrange group weekends, coach trips and walks in other areas.

Car sharing: In the interest of the environment and economy, please fill as many seats in your car as you can when joining walks, especially those that are some distance away.

New walkers are very welcome to join us as guests on two or three walks, but are expected to join the Ramblers Association if they wish to walk regularly with the group and receive a second programme. Forms are available from Pam and Nick.

Existing members of the Ramblers Association can receive a programme from Pam at a cost of £2 for the year.

Recruiting new members, both to the Group and to the Ramblers Association, is important to us. We encourage our members to introduce someone new to the group and the pleasures of walking during the next year.

Non Walkers A number of Friends who are currently unable to walk have organised a once a month Programme of Meals for Non Walkers who miss seeing the other Friends.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
During the last year we have had two walks cancelled one because we were all snowed in, especially the leader Sue Watson, the other was Stella Markham’s walk in London. Peter Hunt contacted the City of London Police who advised to stay away because of the pending riots. I cancelled the walk and tried to let you all know. I went to Liverpool Street Station just in case anyone did turn up and, yes, we had missed one, Gill Thomas was sitting on a seat when I arrived. I was not sure if any of the public would come so my journey was not really wasted.
We had to the Air Ambulance for Sue Wrigley who, unfortunately, fell down an unmarked post hole in what can only be described as appalling weather conditions and sustained a fractured heel and shoulder. I know Sue and Peter have thanked all of you who were there that helped in the rescue. It was quite an experience that I hope will not happen again, especially for Glen who was leading the walk and as Ann Skinner on a previous walk in the same location also led by Glen, had an accident. Since this has happened you can hear members shouting “Hole”!
For our own safety all leaders and back markers wear yellow jackets when walking on the roads. All committee members carry first aid kits for minor injuries.
All our day trips and weekends away have been a success this year and without you all it could not happen, I would like to thank you for supporting me and my committee who have worked hard to make this a happy walking group and it has been my pleasure to have been your chairman for the last three years, retiring with me is Janet Steeley. Both Janet and I will be happy to continue supporting the committee when ever required. I would like to wish chairman elect John Dixon and his committee every success during his term of office.

RAMBLES SECRETARY'S REPORT
I would like to thank Janet Steeley, who has now retired from the Committee, for her invaluable support over the past three years. I also must, once again, say how much I appreciate the effort the leaders put in to ensure that we have a varied and interesting programme of walks. It is not easy.
We’ve had an eventful programme marred by bad weather and an accident but then there have been high points like the sight of so many members dressed in 1940s costumes!
Although stiles, in many instances, are being replaced by gates, Mike Bunney managed to find a walk that included over 20!
